How to recognise various skin types |
| Oily Skin: |
- Skin often appears sallow
- Texture is often coarse and uneven
- Often exhibits pimples and blackheads
- Flakiness may appear around nose and chin caused by and accumulation of dried oils and dead skin cells
- Overall shine to face

| Blemished Skin: |
- Has the basic characteristic of an oily skin
- Found amongst teenagers but may be carried into adult life
- Could include pimples, protruding black heads, open pores, acne
- Coarse texture and unnatural colour
- This skin type may require correct medical consultation

Combination Skin:

- Combination of two or more of the skin types
- Often exhibits the ‘T’ zone

| Normal Skin: |
- Even distribution of pores
- Clear, fine texture, even tone
- Smooth, soft and moist to touch (may experience an infrequent breakout)
- Healthy colour
|
| Dry Skin: |
- Tight, taut feel to skin
- Fine, almost transparent texture
- Flakes, scales, and chafes easily
- Ages more quickly than other skin type
- Obvious lines around eyes, mouth, and/or forehead
- Very few problems with skin blemishes

| Mature Skin: |
- Tendency to increased sensitivity
- Sebaceous, oil producing glands become less productive
- Cells retain less moisture and lose their fullness
- Normal skin functions slow down
- A web of tiny facial lines is evident
- Skin has lost elasticity

| Sensitive Skin: |
- Usually has the basic characteristics of dry skin
- A tendency to ‘blush’ easily
- Broken/dilated capillaries may be evident
- Tautness of skin in evidence
- Reacts to environmental conditions
