The Skin
Your skin is your most precious asset, and needs to be kept in it optimum condition for the ‘age you are at'.
The skin is the body's largest organ, and is essential to the health and life of the body. It is also vulnerable as it is constantly exposed to the environment. The skin works 24 hours a day and performs important functions such as:
Protecting the body from the environment
Regulating body temperature
Eliminating waste materials
Helping to retain vital moisture & elements (your skin is waterproof – retains moisture)
Producing hair and nails
Giving us our individual identity
Holding us together
There is no escaping the ageing process, but you can make sure you treat your skin well to minimise the damage.
It sometime seems that the age –r elated changes in our skin happen almost daily. One morning we look in the mirror and the person looking back at us has bags under the eyes and an extra line or two around the mouth. Stress, tiredness, pollution and even our attitude all have an effect on the way we look and feel. But so of course does time. Skin changes with age and no one should be using the same skin care programme year after year. Products are changing and improving – far faster than our birthdays are coming round.
In your 20's
Look into your future. How to care for your skin now will impact how it looks as you age. These are your skin's best years – collagen levels are high, sun damage won't be too obvious, and you will have a healthy glow.
In your 30's
Even good skincare will not prevent all wrinkles from forming, and in your 30's you will start to see the results of damage – both chronological and environmental. Cell turn over starts to slow down, which means your complexion can appear dull. You may start to see pigmentation spots and increased redness. Your skin will start to thing and there will be a collagen breakdown, which leads to wrinkles. That's the bad news; the good news is that well-cared for skin is beautiful skin. Look after yours with regular exfoliation and skin boosting masks for added hydration and luminosity.
In your 40's
Sunbathing in your teens and 20's will now be catching up on you, with pigmentation and broken capillaries making your skin tone uneven. Your skin may be drier and your stores of collagen and elastin will be reduced, so you might be noticing a lack of firmness. Perimenopause may also promote hormonal changes leading to rosacea and acne.
In your 50's
Your cell turnover has slowed right down, and your skin will be thinner, less firm and might loo9k and feel dry. Any laughter lines may appear deeper and you will be noticing a distinct lack of firmness. A Serum will give an extra moisture boost and a gentle peel mask will put life back into your skin appearance. Filler products will also plump out lines around the eyes and mouth.
